Before you call anyone — these three steps save lives. Then call the National Gas Emergency line. We can follow up after the area is safe.

    Extinguish all flames

    Do not smoke, strike matches, or use lighters. Do not operate light switches or electrical appliances — the spark can ignite the gas.

  2. 02

    Ventilate the area

    Open all doors and windows to let gas disperse. Leave them open. Do not operate extractor fans or HVAC.

  3. 03

    Turn off the gas at the meter

    Only if it's safe to reach. The emergency control valve should be turned 90° so the handle crosses the pipe.
